This post is a follow up to my other one about the interior plastics, incase i decide to cover them instead of repaint. About a month ago somebody posted up info and pics of there newly covered plastics with a material that was like leather i believe but kind of stretchy, i remember them posting a pic on the forum but i have done a few searches and cant find the post. Does anybody know what this stuff was??
I think that was me. I used a product called Tapisuede two-way stretch. Here is the link to the thread you were searching for
Thats it! Looks awsome, How is it holding up? How much material was needed to do your plastics? And if you dont mind me asking, how much did they charge you for that amount of material??
I'll have to dig through my invoices to find the actual yardage and cost, but if I remember correctly, it was 3 yards @ $90 per yard. I have enough left over to repair, or replace any pieces in the future. I laid out all my plastic pieces and figured the most efficient way to cut the material to minimize waste.
The material itself is holding up very well (although it is still very new) I don't really have any concerns about he strength of the material, however, the color I used (ecru) is a dirt magnet. I have been very careful and have been able to keep it clean, however, I am in the middle of having a 430W installed and the installer has managed to get figer prints all over the door and trim pieces on either side. I'm about ready to strangle him, but I suppose it is my fault for not having had that work done first. I can let you know in a couple of days as to how it cleans up. If I had to do it again, I probably would select a different color, or go the route of having Airtex cover the plastic with their headliner material. In any case, I do not regret covering the plastic. It is definitely a much nicer look than painted plastic.
