It's mounted in the rear of my aircraft, has two silver boxes, and what looks like an old-fashioned sliding rheostat...it has a slider that can be moved and then tightened down again with a screw. It has a whole bunch of wires coming out of it.
Sorry for the lame description...I'd post a photo if I could figure out how.
If you're a paid member, you'll see a bit of blue text that says "Attach a file..." right above the formatting bar in the text entry box. Click that link and go through the steps to attach it.
Are the wires connected to anything? Could it be a power supply for strobes or something?
If your aircraft has a 28 volt electrical system it might be a dropping resistor to run some 14 volt item that uses fairly constant current, such as a rotating beacon or strobe.
Does it have an ID tag on it? You might need to use an inspection mirror to read it. Just knowing the manufacturer might help us to guess what it is.
Keith:
Yup...that's what it is. The sliding resistor part looks identical to your diagram, but mine has 2 silver colored boxes above the resistor. Now that you mention it, I believe that it is for the fuel pump settings.
Hi Rick, Sorry for the delay - been traveling. Don't know about the silver boxes. Maybe the voltage regulator or over voltage relay, but I'd expect that to be on the firewall not in the rear (same for the fuel pump resistor). My picture came from the Seneca service manual, but since half my electrical is in the nacelles and the other half in the nose cone, I can't be sure about your plane.
If you have a picture, just above where I'm typing now, there's an "Attach a File" link. CLick on it, and you can browse to your picture.
