Hey all a friend just bought a 1970 PA28-140 and the question for other owners is about wooden rear floor that the rear seats sit upon. The plywood in attached via a hinge on the aft side of the floor but the front is not secured to anything so when someone sits in the rear seat and lean aft the floor tilts back. There appears to be no attach point to the spar carry through area, the carpet is two pieces one that comes up the front side of the spar and then one that is attached to the floor and overlaps the other piece of carpet. There are snaps on the seat upholstery but those just go into the 1/2" ply, so that doesn't hold the plywood down. Any ideas? Haven't received the Maintenance Manual yet so can't take a look at that.
What holds the wood deck down are 6, maybe 8 snaps. the snaps are in the carpet that is on the deck and overlaps the main spar. If the snaps are missing uncover the front of the spar and you'll see the holes for the snaps. The snap bottoms have a sheet metal type screw incorporated into them and just screw into the main spar carry through. (Holes are pre drilled at the factory). I just replaced the carpet in a 1969 140 and am very familiar with this. (alot of work...)

Thanks, and yes the snaps are missing so I'll have my friend get some installed, if I can every get him to stop flying long enough, he is really enjoys his new 140. I'll go out to the airplane today and help him take a look for the factory holes for the snaps.
