So I finally got my 6XT upgraded for WAAS. $8,100 later and I have new software for the Avidyne PFD and MFD, and the special price upgrades on both 430s (Including new coax and antennas).
When I look at the POH entries, the 430W is 1.5 lbs less than the 430. What did they take out that dropped the weight from 6.5 lbs down to 5 lbs? The antennas actually went up from .25 to .5, I assume because of the heavier coax. But 1.5 lbs seems like a lot to take out of the GPS when adding WAAS and terrain???
Is this install legal? I have a 04 Toga and my dealer is telling me that this is not going to happen any time soon. He also told me that Piper is dumping Avidyne for the Garmin.....Any one else having the same problem?
I had the work performed at the Piper dealer in Dallas - Cutter. It is legal now. It took a long time for Piper and Avidyne to get everything ready. You have to get the 430s upgraded to 430Ws, new coax and antennas, and R7.0 for Avidyne. Everything works well. I had to refresh the XM WX, but after that it is also working well.
As far as the weight, I need to go back to Cutter and find out what happened. It can't be a typo because there are two units and two seperate entries into the W&B form.
Piper is not moving to Garmin... They are just making it available for people who want that choice. Avidyne and Piper both told me they are moving forward with the new FMS for the Piper aircraft.
