What kind of cable is used to upload a database into a KLN89B? My airplane has a round microphone-jack type cable on the panel which says data input. has anyone does this before?
You can get the cable from Bendix/King. They normally charge about $75 for it, but if you subscribe to their database update service they will send it to you for free. (You need to be sure to ask for it). You can get all the information on their subscription service on their web site.
I just subscribed last week and they told me I'd still have to pay $60 for the cable. So I made one.
The jack in your panel is for the same type plug that helicopters use for headsets. The plug is about 1" long and has 1 tip and 4 rings. My avionics shop gave me one. The other end is a standard 9 pin computer plug that I picked up at Radio Shack. I have the wiring diagram if you're interested.
Does anyone have a manufacturer and part number for the plug that King uses (tip w/4 rings)? I have tried to find one, but have had no luck at all. Thanks. --Bob
I finally got an answer from King re a free cable with a subscription. They did have a policy that if you subscribed for 13 updates they would send you a free cable. They stopped that in January, 02. Now they charge everyone $60 for a $5 cable.
