One of our Narco Mk12D's had the display crap out this week. Rather than paying for just the repair, I'm considering upgrading the radio to a Mk12D+ which includes a new main board, a new display and nonvolitile memory (10 memorized frequencies), all of which Narco wants $995 for. Since the repair will be at least several hundred $, this seems like a fairly good deal. If anyone here has the done this conversion, I'd appreciate your comments on your experience with the D+ version.
The best advice I can give you is look for a king 155 on ebay. Get ride of your Narco. Their support and attitude is very very poor. Almost everyone I know is replacing anything Narco. Alot of pilots have had very big bill and little service from Narco.
I sent a MK12D into Narco for the overhaul to a 12D+ and it was pretty much painless. Biggest problem was the wait, it turned out they did not have the new circuit board in stock. The radio functioned great and they actually fixed several minor problems at no cost. Although I'm not crazy about Narco, it's been 2 years and over 1500 hours on the airplane without a fault since sending the radio in. It sure is a lot cheaper then converting to a different radio type.
I have the MK12D, the display is fading, do you remember what it cost and the address and phone to contact Narco for a repair on mine?
Thank You
Pierre
