Ok...so it's an old VFR unit, but I have one in my 140.
Does anyone out there have/used the Windows software to interface with this unit?
Would like to get a copy to "play" with the data on mine.
I believe Garmin AT may still offer the updates, just not sure.
John, I just took out an old Apollo 360 Map from my Warrior, but I can affirm that Garmin is still supporting them and providing both the interface software and database updates from the Jeppesen database.
You can get the update software for free now from Garmin. I may actually have a spare CD of it lying around. It's pretty old but still runs in Windows XP. To interface with the unit you have to have a computer that still has the old RS-232 serial interface. I tried using a USB-to-RS232 converter and it worked okay, but mysteriously crapped out. And the Garmin support guys said they have had trouble with them.
Do you still have the connecting cables and everything? I may be able to help you out.
Thanks for the info Jeff.
I don't have any of the cables or software to interface this unit.
Garmin has the interface kit available, but I just wanted to hear that it still works on Windows XP, before I bought the software.
I have the pin outs for the cable, so if necessary, can make one up.
btw...The software is called Windows Waypoint Manager, right?
Does it allow for the creation of routes and download any flight data?
Mine is the 360 GPS, not the 360 Map, so was wondering if this gives more data for download.

John, yes, the software is Waypoint Manager v4.1. It works fine on Windows XP as I said. One other thing I forgot to mention is that, while the Waypoint Manager software comes on a CD-ROM, the database updates are only available on 3.5" diskette. So you have to have one of those drives in an older computer, or get a USB drive, to upload the databases.
As to extracting track points the manual says this is available on the 360 but I never tried it so I can't say for sure.
Good luck, and let me know if I can help. I do have the connection cables but I'd rather not sell them separately unless it becomes impossible to move the entire set.
OK...not to bore everyone with such a lowly story of old equipment...
Jeff S, I finally managed to make all this work today.
Probably the hardest part was finding a tini xlr connector to interface with the port in the plane.
After making up the cable and using a usb/rs-232 converting cable, it all interfaced quite well with my notebook computer. That is after I set the right comm settings in the GPS.
About 10% into the first attempt to update the unit, it crapped out on the connection. I Just reconfigured and it worked the second time.
Thanks again Jeff for the info.
At least now my obsolete GPS is now "up to date".
