It started with the nav light breaker popping when flying at night and now it's the landing light breaker popping all the time, the landing light breaker even pops during the day time or dusk when I turn it on.There has also been a smell of burning insulation when I have everything turned on at night. We have had the landing light circuit checked and they say everything is alright, yeah right.
The aircraft still has the old aluminum battery cabling and we want to switch it out to the copper one, I think that would be a good start, also we purchased a new audio panel and will have all of the radio harnesses's replaced by our avionics shop, during that process we want the avionics guy to check all of the grounds and wiring for evidence of loose or burnt wiring.Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Burning insulation smell would have me worried.. sounds like a dead short and that shouldn't be that hard for a competent shop to find. Also may want to check the charging system.. low voltage makes for higher amps and can pop the breakers.
I just called my FBO and will have them rewire the landing light, add a new circuit breaker and new rocker switch, that should do it.
Anyone know where to get new rocker switches for my 1968 Cherokee 180D?
Check out Spruce aircraft if you need a split master or strobe switch I saw both of them online in their catalog, of course this was afer paying 50.00 for them from desmoines flying service. Pays to shop the catalogs.
If you have a circuit breaker poping any electrician should be able to figure it out in no time. Its a damn short to ground... This could and should be found in a mater of minutes... I know ive covered this in another post with you. They still havent figured this out???
Normally true Paul. But take a weak 5 amp CB add three nav lights that combine for a 5.6 amp draw and you get a tripping CB. That's why I think the later PA28's have a 7 amp CB with the rest of the system unchanged. Could be wrong since I really am not the greatest spark chaser in the world but that's what I found on my Arrow.
