I have had a 1980 PA32 R for the past 2 years and have had a lot of things go wrong with the undercarriage and the indicator lights.
Pump replaced
wiring replaced and indicator lights
Bushes and pins replaced due to non retractation under emergency situation.
On checking past maintenance releases it seems that it has had a long history of undercarriage problems and has had three diffenrnt LAME working on the plane but still having problems.
My question is, is this a normal problem with the model or am I just unlucky ??
pa32r-301t. Landing gear has always proved to be dependable. A bulb was loose one time showing only 2 in the green, I tapped it and it came on. Thought the gear wasn't working right one time when I had been flying the night before. Had forgot to turn the night lights off, they are dim in daylight. Once had ice acumulation on the gear when taking off from a high altitude airport in the winter, had to recycle a couple of times to get the gear up. Other than that no problems with the gear.
I have an '82 PA-32R in for annual; there appears to be an emergency gear extension problem.
When lowered by emergency method the gear drops, main gear links go over center but j-hook at lock switch does not move down to normal locked position. (1) Is this normal? (2) If j-hook is supposed to come down, what causes it to not come down?
Piper told the tech that j-hook should come down. Any ideas?

Located the problem.
Found rusted/corroded j-hook pivot bolts. This condition didn't stop hydraulic powered movement of j-hooks but was enough that it prevented spring assisted movement during emergency gear extension.
