My '69 R200 cruises at 140 TAS at 8 gph but that's at 10,000 or higher since I live in Colorado and rarely cruise below those altitudes. At those altitudes I can only get about 21 inches at 2400 rpm. Plus my Arrow has the "Hershey Bar" wing which some say results in faster cruise than the tapered wing.
Ian,
I flight plan usually for 150KIAS. The numbers above were at 2500. The higher you go the faster the cruise. I can fly at 16,500 and with the right conditions I'm hitting 172KIAS. Usually below 10,000 I will cruise anywhere from 140 to 155 kias depending on wind. I don't take her below 12gph..I like my cylinders just the way they are. Many would and do argue but I will always run rich of peak..she likes it that way. It's fun to get some altitude and cruise at or above 200MPH!
Have a 1979 Archer with 1600 + hour engine and in Dec of 2007 got 174 kts ground speed while crossing the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains in N.C. at altitude of 9500 ft. Always true out at 125-130 kts. Also have useful load of 978 lbs; can't remember exactly why I wanted an Arrow??
I love the archer very much simple nice basic engine very hassle free
but the one i used to fly often ended up arround the 100/110 knots
which kinda gets pretty tiring
Not really in the numbers that an arrow turbo sees but much cheaper to keep and alot less things to think about push go pull stop yeee haa
no boost/inches or wheels to worry about
But 150 knots is kinda cool i'll keep my arrow thanks
Ron,
maybe it was the higher service ceiling..or the turbo, or to go faster, or to have a useful load of 1100, or to get the wheels out of the wind, or to look better, or the CS prop, or....gee I don't know.
