There was some concern expressed a few months ago about the availability of new parts for the PA28/28R series. I have been compiling some numbers on a survey of all the parts listed in the parts catalog for the PA28-140,150,160,180,235 and PA28R180/200. Here are some numbers that I found interesting....survey lists about 8100 line items......
Piper-manufactured items - about 11% are not available from ANY source!
Piper-purchased items - less that 2% of ALL the vendor-supplied items are not available from ANY source.
Number of sources listed: 210 (includes manufacturers, dealers, consignment brokers and Piper service centers.)
Approx 23% of airframe line items manufactured by Piper are in stock in dealers outside the U.S.
Piper's average mark-up on vendor-supplied items - 55%. The figure is based on gathering the costs from the manufacturer or mfg's dealer.
The number of part-number changes since the last revision of the PA28 parts catalog - 1262, (and counting!)
I am not concerned about the availability of spare parts for these models (not yet, anyway)
