I'm about to start replacing my ratty glareshield in my '73 -140 with the AircraftDoorSeals.com glareshield.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on easy ways to do it before I start? Any pictures of the completed install?
They provide pretty thorough instructions, but they mention that the space between the windshield and the glareshield at the aft edge is pretty tight, and to use soapy water to lubricate that area to make it easier to get the material to slide down. I'm leary about using water in that area - any other suggestions?
I have a '79 Archer that needs a replacement also. I don't see how it can be done without taking out the windshields. Is it possible and what special tools are required?
Apparently it is, although I haven't tried it. The only tricky spot should be the removal of the defroster vent trim. You'll need a low-profile screw driver to hold the screw head while someone else crawls under the dash and reaches up with a nut driver.
Certainly would be more accessible with the windshield removed, but that seems like a fair bit of work and requires an A/P signoff.
Not yet Chip - I'm waiting for some warmer weather to do it. Up here in Ottawa we're getting inundated with snow still, but temps are starting to rise (I think).
I hope to get at it by the end of March if I can find a couple nice days.
I talked to Dick (aircraftdoorseals.com) this week and he had some tips on doing it with the windshield in place. I am in a club and we went ahead and ordered two glareshields for our two Arrows. Dick did stress that it was much easier with the windshield removed and said that the windshield removal could be done in about 6 minutes.
We hope to get this completed by April, I will report back with our progress.
