My landing light died this weekend. I ask this dumb question because I got in so late last night, and did not have a chance to look at the setup: Do I need to take off the cowling to replace the landing light? Trying to decide if I want to do this, or get the shop to do it.
Depends on the model of Arrow. Changing the landing light on my '69 P28R200 is done without removing the cowl and takes about 5 minutes if you're slow.
i have the 1973, one screw on light bezel will release light the two screws to take light out completely, go to NAPA to get new bulb. The bulb is FAA/PMA. It says right on the box for tractors and aviation.
good luck welcome to the maintainance side. Do you have a parts manual and service manual?
Nooooooo!!! Don't start this discussion all over again!
Ryan...do a search of the forum on landing lights. There was a long discussion (and a very useful one) on the best choice for a replacement bulb. You have lots of options over and above the standard unit.
I had to Rick! I still have the first Q4509 I put in my plane when I bought it close to 400 hours ago (2.5 years).
Ah oh... I'll hint on another one. The lights last forever but I can'
t seem to get more than 150 hours out of a pair of main tires (Michelin) when others seem to dry rot Air Hawks before they wear out the tread... and mine wear very even. (I guess I try to make the first turn off too much!)
I promise. I won't bring up oil and additive choices...
I concur with the Q4509 bulb. I get significantly better life out of them than the 4509. In fact, I can't remember the last time I replaced one. I fly a '78 Arrow III.
