I have seen a mod on some Piper Aztecs tha has a ram horn type installation on the air baffle with a bigger oil cooler connecting to it on a separate bracket. The oil cooler doesn't mount on the baffle anymore. Does anyone know about this and give me the info? Thanks
You were looking at an update kit piper had for the AZtec to help with oil cooling. It does work. It is a copy of the oil cooler system on the later Turbo models, but the kit doesn't have a louver on the left engine like the turbo models. So on mine I had to get a 337 for an louver on the cowling on the the left engine just like the louver on the right engine toward the fuselage. My left engine always ran hotter than the right. Now they are almost the same!
Look in a aztec parts book page 2c13, # 45 for the oil cooler and read the notes.
