I have not converted a generator to alternator with their STC but I have changed from the Chrysler alternator to the Plane Power. It works much better than the original. The generator conversion should work the same. I would not hesitate to upgrade. From the pictures it looks just like a bolt on replacement.
The new alternator is capable of 70 amps. But it is limited by the size of the wiring in your airplane. Many early Cherokees had 37 amp alternators. To be able to use the 70 amps those airplanes would have to replace a few cables. You may already have some if you changed to copper.
I know several folks who have put the Plane Power alternators on their planes and all of them are very well pleased with them. No gripes at all. When my old Chrysler 60a alternator quits, I'll be installing the Plane Power pma'ed replacement kit without a second thought.
