Does anyone have any experience in South Carolina with the Landrum/Fairveiw airstrip? It is located North West of the Greenville Spartanburg area. I understand there is a dip in the runway on 32 at 860ft. I'll be flying an Archer. Any input?
The airport was recently purchased by another group. They have big plans for the place. That won't help you though. It will be quiet a while before things happen.
I have family nearby and land on the strip about once a month. No problems. It is the narrowest strip in SC and does have a dip in the center. There are patches all over the place. One of the pilots based there told me to always land on 32. It is uphill. I tried to land downhill once and almost ran off the end in a cherokee six. The downhill slope is more than it seems.
Bring your own tie downs unless you like attaching metal chains to your paint job.
I see this post is rather old but it is now Aug 2008 and will be moving close to this airport soon..any update use by anyone or other info that would be helpfull..please email me thanks.
I visit my sister and brother in law who have a house up on Glassy in the Cliffs, which is about 15 minutes from this airport. I saw in AirNav that Landrum had a pretty bad looking profile, so we always land out at GSP. We did go (drive) over and look at it. The runway is horrible and there is nobody around and no fence or any security of any apparent kind. No fuel... no FBO... nothing. My Arrow has a 530W and a bunch of other stuff... and I would no sooner leave my plane there at night then to land it and leave it where all the cars in site are up on milk crates. To this point, there were no other planes anywhere to be seen there either.
It could be made into something, but as it stands there is not much going on.
