Wanted to pass along a great place to fly to that is very unique. I have flown to many different places and found this resort destination to be especially nice.
A pilot's paradise...what a great place to fly into for the day, weekend or week. This island is a real gem with the airport directly next to the intra-costal waterway and only 1 mile from the ocean. My wife and I flew in for a weekend trip and had a fabulous time. You can stay at the historical Jekyll Island Club Hotel (1-800-535-9547) which was the private seasonal getaway for the likes of J.P. Morgan, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Pulitzer, etc. You can also fly in for just lunch, as the hotel will pick you up for the 1 mile trip or simply walk and enjoy the beautiful island area. The hotel offers murder-mystery weekends, Jazz Festivals, along with biking, golf,swimming,tennis,croquet,touring the historical district and just plain relaxing on the scenic porches that surround the Jekyll Island Club. If you want a perfect fly-in for your EAA or pilot group...this is the ideal venue for a few hours or all week. They even have a vehicle rental agency on the field that will rent you The Red Bug - small island type rental vehicles.
