Is this an Avidyne Integra (glass panel) plane?? If so you have a problem with the ADHRS (air data computer) in the PFD (primary flight display). There is a recent SB for Avidyne PFDs so you will need to see if you serial number is on the list and send the MFD to them for repair. This can take several (6-8 weeks). Don't fly IFR with this PFD.

Good luck.

Really a case of poor design since the potential for cracks exists on a whole lot of models. I would insist that this be done before I bought another Piper model subject to the SB. And since SBs aren't mandatory for Part 91 ops, unless you had an entire SB and SL list for that aircraft and did a logbook check with that list in hand, I don't know if you would ever find it!

Ron,

I don't think there was much variability through the year range you're talking about. The factory spec empty weight on the 6X is about 200 pounds heavier than the factory spec '80 Saratoga, but that's primarily because the standard equipment airplane in '80 was a freighter. Starting in '94 Piper included passenger seats, cabin interior, and a host of other options as standard. There wasn't a significant change in the underlying airframe (the aerodynamic cleanups in '94 were close to a wash weight-wise). It's all about the options which the first owner ordered: My '88 Saratoga came from the factory with the full executive package and is a bit heavier than a "standard" 6X. Standard empty weight on the 6X is 2,216 pounds.

Retractable gear is going to cost you another 175 pounds, at least in terms of standard weight. Planes in the field usually reflect that as it's pretty hard to compensate for those particular pounds. Watch out for air conditioners: they cost another 70 pounds and were optional across the fleet. You don't want to suffer that penalty if you don't need AC.

Regards,
Exhaust is on the right side - the deposits are on the left side.
I have an EGT, always leaning to a red marking.
To me the deposits looks like exhaust fumes.

I was trained in Cessna highwings, and the transition to a Cherokee 140 took me all of about an hour, and about a half dozen landings. Been flying mostly Pipers ever since. Piece of cake. It's about the easiest transition you'll ever have. I think the hardest part for me was remembering when to switch on the boost pump and changing tanks periodically to keep a wing from getting heavy from fuel tank imbalance. Oh yeah, and having only a handbrake was a little weird at first, but you won't have that issue in a Warrior because all of those have at least pilot-side toe brakes. I absolutely love being able to keep the runway in sight while making turns in the pattern instead of only being able to see the underside of a big ol' long Cessna wing ;-)
